MARCH/CARAVAN FOR MIGRANTS (UPDATED Schedule & local contacts)

On Thursday, February 2, 2006 GENTE UNIDA, BORDER ANGELS and dozens of other human rights organizations as well as thousands of individuals will support the MARCH FOR MIGRANTS from San Diego to Washington D.C.
The march for migrants will lobby senators & legislators to vote no on issues such as HR 4437(continued militarization of border and criminalization of migrants, employers & supporters), demand justice for Guillermo Martinez Rodriguez (assassinated by the Border Patrol in San Diego 12/30/05), pay homage to the 4000 migrants that have died since the inception of the failed operation gatekeeper in 1994 (4000 crosses will be planted during march across America in their honor) denounce the militarization/vigilantism at border and hear the voices of our community across the country as marchers and supporters hear the realities of respective migrant and immigrant communities.
"Basta al racismo y la injusticia" states Enrique Morones of Border Angles and Gente Unida, "its time our community march on Washington and across the country to let the world know, we demand to be treated with respect and dignity, we ask for nothing more and will settle for nothing less"
"We will also lead boycotts and protests due to the constant attacks on our community" states Vicente Rodriguez of Gente Unida. "We too have a voice"
The march/caravan will begin on the anniversary of the signing of the treaty of Guadalupe-Hidalgo on February 2nd @ 1200 noon by the wall "of shame & the wall of death" located in San Ysidro (last US exit on West side) on Virginia Street.

MARCHA/CARAVANA POR LOS Y LAS INMIGRANTES (Calendario parcial)
El 2 de febrero de 2006, un grupo de GENTE UNIDA, ANGELES DE LA FRONTERA y docenas de organizaciones de derechos humanos se unirán a miles de individuos en apoyo a la MARCHA POR LOS Y LAS INMIGRANTES que irá de San Diego, California a Washington, capital de EUA.
La marcha por los y las inmigrantes presionará a senadores y diputados en asuntos migratorios tales como la propuesta de ley HR 4437, la que continúa la militarización de la frontera y criminaliza a los y las inmigrantes, negocios y activistas por derechos de inmigrantes. La marcha también demandará justicia a Guillermo Martínez Rodríguez, quien fue asesinado por la Border Patrol, Policía Fronteriza de EUA, el 30 de diciembre de 2005. La marcha también rendirá homenaje a los y las 4,000 inmigrantes que han muerto desde la creación de la fallida Operación Guardián y los vigilantes en la frontera; cuatro mil cruces serán sembradas durante la marcha a través de los Estados Unidos en su honor. La marcha también escuchará las voces de nuestra comunidad a través del país al ir dialogando con las comunidades de inmigrantes de distintos lados del país.
“Basta al racismo y la injusticia,”afirma Enrique Morones, participante de la marcha y miembro de Angeles de la Frontera y la red Gente Unida. “Es tiempo de que nuestras comunidades marchen a Washington y a todo el país para informar al mundo que exigimos ser tratados con respeto y dignidad. No pedimos más ni aceptaremos menos.”
“También organizaremos boicots y protestas ante los constantes ataques a nuestra comunidad,” firma Vicente Rodriguez, integrante de Gente Unida. “También nosotros tenemos voz.”
La marcha caravana saldrá el día de aniversario de la firma de Tratado de Guadalupe Hidalgo (que en 1848 formalizó la apropiación de EUA de los estados de Texas, Nuevo México, Arizona y California); esto es, el 2 de febrero a las 12 horas frente al “muro de la vergüenza y la muerte” localizado en la frontera de San Ysidro, sur de San Diego, en la última salida de las autopistas 5 y 805. Se plantará una cruz y hará ceremonia en honor de Guillermo Martines Rodríguez
330 pm: Frontera de Calexico con Mexicali, protesta en los dos lados de la frontera
500 pm: Vigilia y colocación de 400 cruces en el cementerio Holtville Cemetery, por 400 migrantes no identificados sepultados aquí.
